My art practice begins with walking: I seek to walk myself to the point of stillness, into a state of noticing, and towards the possibility of glimpsing something beautiful enough for the needs of the day. I have a particular love of lichens, mosses, fungi – the way they soften stone, the way they charge a rain-swept day with improbable and seductive colour. I love faded, worn, abraded things, weathered by exposure to the environment, our touch, our forgetfulness. Working primarily in hand-stitch, I seek to hold and share some of the joy I find in these things. It is quiet work: an invitation to be still, and then to go back out into the world, and look.
